Staff member (f/m/d) in science in the field of electron microscopy

Job description
As part of your job, you will conduct research in the department "Advanced Electron Microscopy in Materials Research" at the Institute of Nanotechnology at KIT Karlsruhe in the in the field of high-end structural analysis. In close cooperation with various research groups from the fields of chemistry, materials science and physics, you will support material science questions by means of in-situ and ex-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and, if necessary, further develop existing methods and develop new approaches, existing methods and pursue new approaches. A methodological focus will be on 4D-STEM and EELS spectroscopy. It expected to develop and submit independent research proposals. In addition to your own research, you will Supervise PhD students and teach other postdocs from the department their methods, or support them at the TEM.
Personal qualification
You have a university degree (Diplom (Uni) / Master) in physics, chemistry or materials science, with a completed doctorate and already have several years of professional experience in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) incl. HRSTEM, 4D-STEM, EELS, EDX. Furthermore you have an excellent understanding of electron optics and can use this for the development/implementation of new methods. You can demonstrate your own experimental investigations and methodological developments through publications in peer-reviewed journals. Good knowledge of data processing, MatLab/Python programming and machine learning should be available. Personally, you are convincing with your goal- and team-oriented and are open to new collaborations and technical issues. Good written and spoken English skills round off your profile.
Salary
Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
