Institute of Information Security and Dependability (KASTEL) offers a fully funded research assistant position in the Helmholtz project “Building Healthcare Resilience Against Cyber-Attacks” at the earliest possible date.

In recent years, the number and severity of cyber-attacks against healthcare providers and hospitals worldwide have increased significantly, resulting in blocked access to patient data and critical services, appointment cancellations, and closed emergency departments. This Helmholtz project is dedicated to making an entire hospital network more resilient to future cyber threats by developing a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach. Within this project a new risk measure will be developed to quantitatively measure clinical cyber risks and assess patient harm resulting from delayed or postponed healthcare provision. In addition, this project aims to identify the strength of a hospital’s connections with other hospitals and to detect hospitals whose infection causes maximum disruption and therefore require special protection. Project tasks involve collecting, maintaining, and analyzing hospital data from our partners in Baden Wurttemberg and beyond.

Your main tasks and responsibilities within this project are:

  • Conduct academic research which will lead to high quality scientific publications
  • Contribute to projects with academic and industrial partners, e.g. KASTEL, Imperial College London, Helios hospitals etc.
