Vacancy No. 1340/2024

Research Associate (f/m/d) at the French-German Institute for Environmental Research in the Field of Energy Economics

Job description

The DFIU is a research institution with the mandate to sustain the widespread wish of France and Germany for strengthening cross-border scientific cooperation. Our ambition is to be one of the central scientific players in the area of French-German and international environmental and energy research. It is associated with the Institute for Industrial Production (IIP).

Your main task is working on interdisciplinary, practice-oriented research projects dealing with empirical analyses in the context of the sustainable energy transition. In particular, you will study the decision-making of different actors (e. g., private households) regarding their energy consumption and technology acceptance. This involves first and foremost quantitative (e. g., surveys, experimental studies) but also qualitative research methods (e. g., interviews). Your tasks include the development and subsequent analysis of such empirical studies using statistical approaches. A particular focus of this research will be energy and environmental issues in the French-German context. In the short term, you will conduct empirical studies on hydrogen-based energy technologies as well as smart meters in Germany and France and contribute to project reports and workshops.

The project is based at the French-German Institute for Environmental Research.

The position is to be filled in the Energy and Behavior group at the Chair of Energy Economics at the IIP. The research group deals with questions of acceptance of (energy) technologies and energy behavior from an empirical perspective.

The possibility of pursuing a doctorate is given.

Personal qualification
  • A university degree (Master's) in (social/environmental) psychology, economics, industrial engineering, political science, sociology or a comparable course of study with an empirical focus
  • Interest in carrying out quantitative and qualitative analyses as well as experience in conducting representative surveys and interviews are very advantageous
  • Knowledge/experience in statistical data analysis
  • Professional aptitude, a high level of commitment, good self-organization, and good English and German or French language skills
  • Knowledge of the energy industry is desirable, but not a prerequisite
