University Professorship (W3) for “Food Chemistry and Toxicology”

Job description

The full professorship (W3) is linked to the Institute of Applied Biosciences (IAB) and part of the collegial institute management. We are looking for an internationally recognized expert (f/m/nb) in science-based risk assessment of food constituents. Apart from conventional food, this may include novel food and food supplements as well as residues and environmental or process contaminants. You will identify toxicologically relevant food constituents and study their mechanisms of action. Research interests may also include the influence of potentially protective bioactive food ingredients.

You are an expert in modern analytical methods including innovative biochemical, toxicological, and biomolecular techniques and incorporate these into your research activities. We offer peer collaboration with other professors in the area of food chemistry and at the interfaces with food processing technology as well as chemical and biological disciplines. Other potential partners are research institutions working in the areas of food chemistry / nutritional science in the Karlsruhe area. Applicants interested in translating research findings into innovative technologies and products are highly welcome.

You will assume university responsibilities with a teaching obligation of 9 hours per week per semester at KIT. We expect you to provide undergraduate and research-oriented graduate education in German and English at the KIT Department of Chemistry and Biosciences and to use modern teaching methods and concepts. In particular, your academic education activities are expected to cover modules relating to nutritional sciences and biochemicotoxicological aspects but also on food chemistry and food analysis of our Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs of Food Chemistry.  

Applicants are expected to work in the Committees of KIT as well as in the committees of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs of Food Chemistry.

Personal qualification

You already have a high international visibility in the area of food chemistry / food toxicology and enjoy collaborative research work. You are experienced in the acquisition of third-party funding and inspire students in your academic subject. Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 47 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges).
