Vacancy No. 507/2024

PhD Candidate in Advanced Reactor Technologies for Green Synthesis of Hydrogen Peroxide (f/m/d)

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our interdisciplinary research team at the Institute for Micro Process Engineering (IMVT). The project is part of the HyPerCat Research Unit, supported by DFG. Our work aims to explore and develop innovative reactor systems that integrate both electrochemical and thermochemical methods for the green synthesis of hydrogen peroxide. This role involves the design, fabrication, and testing of advanced microstructured reactors, as well as in-depth studies of reaction kinetics and mass transfer phenomena.

Job description

Your Tasks will comprise:

  • Leading the development of experimental systems for the synthesis of hydrogen peroxide, combining both electrochemical and thermochemical processes
  • Designing and fabricating microstructured reactors using advanced manufacturing techniques, such as additive manufacturing and specialized coatings
  • Developing and integrating exchangeable membrane units, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of high-pressure electrochemical cells and catalytic reactors
  • Performing quantitative analysis of experimental data to elucidate reaction kinetics and transport phenomena, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize reactor performance
  • Collaborating with world-leading researchers to apply advanced analytical techniques, including operando spectroscopy, for monitoring reaction intermediates and product distributions in real time
  • Summarizing and presenting the scientific results in reports, at internal meetings, and at conferences
  • Preparing the scientific findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals and summarizing them in a dissertation.
Personal qualification
  • You should hold a Master degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry,  Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • University degree in the above-mentioned disciplines with qualification for a doctorate
  • We are looking for a candidate who has experience in electrochemical systems, reactor design, or computational modeling
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Proven ability to develop creative solutions to complex research problems
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a drive to push the boundaries of current scientific knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment coupled with a passion for research
  • A passion for green technologies and sustainable development.

Salary category 13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
