Vacancy No. 1396/2024

PostDoc in Seismology (f/m/d)

Job description

At the Geophysical Institute of KIT the new working group “Seismo-Geodesy” is forming, engaging in research on tectonics with a particular focus on the earthquake deformation cycle. We are working on advancing the integral use of seismological observations and space-geodetic measurements for both event-based and large-scale analyses of faulting processes. In cooperation with national and international partners we aim to further improve earthquake source analysis methods at data and model ends. For support, we are seeking an enthusiastic geophysicist with strong background in seismology and earthquake source physics and with a broad interest in data-driven, geophysical research on crustal deformation.

Personal qualification
  • You have a PhD in geophysics with a strong scientific record of studying earthquakes.
  • Ideally, you have experience in analyzing space geodetic data of surface deformation like InSAR and GNSS.
  • You are experienced in applying scientific software tools, e.g. community software (obspy, pyrocko) for numerical data analysis, have good skills in scientific programming (ideally including python) and are generally very familiar with a Linux working environment.
  • Skills and experience in web programming would be very welcome.
  • Furthermore, good communication skills particularly in English are required for teaching and the presentation of research in manuscripts and on conferences.
  • A good command of the German language is required.
