Job description
We are looking for an internationally recognized personality in an early phase of their academic career with potential for outstanding research work in the field of information systems. The Tenure-Track-Professorship focuses on the socio-technical understanding and design of sustainable digital platforms and services. A strong emphasis on (Gen)AI methods and technology research is desired. The Tenure-Track-Professorship applies empirical and design-oriented research methods and promotes social acceptance.
Through teaching, you will strengthen the offering of the KIT-Department of Economics and Management by active participation in the basic and specialization program in the field of information systems of the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. In particular, you will contribute to the expansion of the English-language specialization program by developing courses on the topic of digital platforms & services, as well as (Gen)AI-based information systems.
The Tenure-Track-Professorship (W1) “Information Systems IV – Digital Platforms & Services“ belongs to the Institute of Information Systems and Marketing (IISM) (from January 1, 2025 the Institute for Information Systems (WIN)). We live interdisciplinarity in research and teaching! The willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation, joint acquisition of third-party research funding, and the participation in academic self-administration are required. The Tenure-Track-Professorship (W1) “Information Systems IV – Digital Platforms & Services“ is supported by IBM. The commitment for an active industry collaboration and the transfer of research results in business, society, and start-up activities are desired. It is expected that the Tenure-Track-Professorship will engage in and help develop the existing Industry-on-Campus collaboration (KSRI).
You have a teaching obligation of 6 hours per week per semester, if you have been evaluated positively. In other cases, your teaching obligation will be 4 hours per week per semester.
Personal qualification
Employment is subject to Art. 14, par. (2) of the KIT Act in conjunction with Art. 51 LHG Baden-Württemberg (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) as well as to the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

Contract duration
Employment is limited to six years as a civil servant for a fixed term or as a salaried employee. Before the expiry of the third year of work, an interim evaluation will take place. The evaluation procedure and evaluation criteria are outlined in the Quality Assurance Concept for Junior Professorships and Tenure-track Professorships at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Specific interim and final evaluation criteria will include excellent publications on an international level, third-party funds acquired, very good performance in teaching, future-oriented cooperation within and outside the KIT as well as academic commitment.
In case of a positive final evaluation, you will be offered a full professorship (W3).
