Job description

Your main tasks will include:

  • Supervision of experiments with the X-ray emission spectrometer (XES-spectrometer) at the ACT station of the CAT-ACT beamline, KIT Light Source
  • Managing development and commissioning of new instrumentation part of the XES-spectrometer at the ACT station.
  • Co-development of in-situ experimental setups at the X-SPEC beamline at the KIT Light Source
  • Contribution to the development and installation of the ROXS station for soft X-ray studies of actinide materials at the X-SPEC beamline, KIT Light Source
  • Updating and improving the documentation for the XES-spectrometer
  • Investigation of actinide sample systems using high-resolution XES/XAS and NIXS methods
  • Performing data analysis and publishing results
  • Contribution to teaching activities<
Personal qualification
  • University degree in Chemistry or Physics (Master's) or related natural sciences, preferably with a completed PhD
  • Experience with working at a synchrotron, preferably, but not necessary, as a beamline scientist. A completed PhD or a postdoc with focus on synchrotron radiation X-ray methods could be also a sufficient qualification for the position.
  • In-depth experience in the design and commissioning of X-ray emission spectrometers is an advantage
  • Knowledge and practical experience with inelastic X-ray scattering or X-ray spectroscopy are beneficial
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines.
