Vacancy No. 1072/2025
Academic assistant (f/m/d) in the field of geodetic sensor systems (pre-doc or post-doc)
part time 75%
Job description
KIT is coordinating the establishment of the GeoLaB underground laboratory for researching deep geothermics. As part of this large-scale research, a geosensor network for the comprehensive monitoring of this infrastructure is to be established, laying a valuable and necessary foundation for the safe use of renewable energies.
The research focus of your work is on:
- the design and construction of a geosensor network for the comprehensive monitoring of underground structures, taking into account quality aspects such as accuracy, completeness and sensitivity
- the investigation of strategies for jointly analysing point-wise and areal geodata, by fully taking into account the uncertainty budget
- the development of models to describe the observed changes on the basis of the acquired data.
A doctorate in the research fields outlined above is possible, as is further qualification as part of a post-doctoral phase. In the latter case, you will also be responsible for supervising theses in your field of research.
You can expect
- to work in a team that is currently being established
- a diverse research activity in the field of geodetic sensor systems in the interdisciplinary environment of an innovative large-scale research infrastructure of the Helmholtz Association
- an attractive and modern workplace with access to the excellent facilities of the KIT
- a wide range of training opportunities.
Personal qualification
- You have a very good university degree (master's degree) in geodesy or a related field of study (e. g. civil engineering, geoscience, geophysics), and – possibly – a very good doctorate.
- You have in-depth knowledge in the field of geodetic sensor technology and the analysis of acquired geodata. Furthermore, you have very good programming skills (Matlab, Python).
- Experience in monitoring large structures and setting up geosensor networks is desirable, but not a prerequisite.
- In addition, you have comprehensive knowledge of written and spoken English and German.
- You have the ability to work in a team and are characterized by an independent and committed way of working.
