Vacancy No. 131/2025

Employee (f/m/d) in science in the field of physical chemistry

Part-time 66 %

The project “Structure and Reactivity of Metal Clusters” is part of the TrackAct Collaborative Research Center (SFB) funded by the German Research Foundation. A unique experiment to determine cluster structures and reactivities in the gas phase, the Trapped Ion Electron Diffraction (TIED) experiment, was developed within this framework.

Metal clusters are particles in the sub-nanometer range whose structure and properties differ significantly from bulk material. They are promising candidates for the most active species in many catalytic processes. These clusters are used as model systems in the gas phase to study their structure and chemical properties in a size-selective manner.

Job description

You investigate the structural and chemical properties of metal clusters in the gas phase. The focus is on the catalytically relevant species. You will further develop the Trapped Ion Electron Diffraction (TIED) experiment and implement new TIED-based structure search methods in collaboration with colleagues from the theory department. You will also be responsible for publishing the results in scientific journals and at conferences.

In addition to the scientific work, there is the possibility of a doctorate.

Personal qualification

You have a university degree (Diploma (Uni) / Master) in chemistry, physics or a related field. You have a sound knowledge of experimental physical chemistry or molecular physics and have already gained initial experience with UHV technologies. In addition, you are characterized by your oral and written communication skills and your ability to work independently in an international team.
