Research associate (f/m/d) in the field of European passenger transport demand modeling

Job description

The position is located at the Chair of Network Economics (Prof. Dr. Kay Mitusch) of the Institute of Economics. The chair is internationally recognized for its contributions and project research on transport economics, transport modelling and regulation. It fulfils teaching tasks for the economics degree programs of KIT and is also involved in the European university network TransportNet.

Your tasks include in particular the modeling of European long-distance passenger transport demand. As part of a project funded by RailNet Europe (RNE), we are working in an international team to develop various options for service concepts for long-distance lines of European railroad companies. For this purpose, you will support the development of a European passenger transport demand model, based on the existing passenger transport model of the European strategic evaluation model HIGH-TOOL.

The possibility of a doctorate is given and encouraged.

Personal qualification
  • You have a university degree (Master) in industrial engineering, transportation engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or a comparable course of study.
  • You are interested in the transport sector and ideally have knowledge of (macroscopic) traffic modeling.
  • In addition to your technical background, we expect a high level of commitment, good self-organization and very good German and/or English language skills.
