X-ray imaging with synchrotron radiation
Job description
KIT operates the HIKA experimental station at the PETRA III storage ring at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg. Your responsibilities will include operating and further developing the HIKA experimental station at PETRA III, planning the expansion of the station as the first phase beamline BL22 at PETRA IV, and conducting research on the development of methods and instruments for X-ray imaging with synchrotron radiation for use in materials research and/or the life sciences. Specifically, you will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Coordination of experimental operations and project work
- Planning, implementation, and evaluation of experiments
- Research and method development for applications of X-ray imaging in materials research (hierarchical 3D imaging for in situ and operando structural investigations) and/or the life sciences (in particular for morphological 3D and in vivo imaging)
- Publication of research results
- Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams
- Contribution to third-party funding acquisition
- Compliance with/application of occupational safety and radiation protection
- Budget, resource, and investment planning
- Collaboration in teaching and supervising theses, mentoring doctoral candidates and students
Personal qualification
You have a university degree (master's) in physics or a comparable field, a completed doctorate, long-term experience in the field of X-ray imaging with synchrotron radiation, in particular in modern 2D and 3D resolving X-ray imaging in the hard X-ray range (hierarchical imaging, including X-ray transmission microscopy, phase contrast imaging, dose-efficient X-ray imaging, and/or synchrotron laminography), experience in project management and staff leadership, as well as good written and spoken English skills

Salary category 14 TV-L, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
