Vacancy No. 1321/2025

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d/) for Research on Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) of Complex and High-entropy Oxides

Full Time

Job description

The Institute for Applied MaterialsCeramic Materials and Technologies (IAM-KWT) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a leading institute in the research and development of inorganic materials, particularly porous and functional ceramics. Our expertise covers the entire development chain – from material synthesis, through sinter-based and coating-based processing, up to the comprehensive characterization of material and part properties. Our portfolio includes not only bulk materials, but also functional (thin) films and 3D structures functionalized by atomic layer deposition (ALD).

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Investigate ALD processes for fabrication of complex and high-entropy oxides
  • Develop the ALD coating of sinter-based and 3D printed porous structures
  • Collaborate with other team members (PhDs and postdocs) working on 3D printing of ceramics, sinter-based catalysts and photonic sensors
  • Participate in the teaching activities of IAM-KWT
  • Report and present results to internal and external audiences
  • Publish the research results in internationally-recognized journals
Personal qualification

Education background:

  • Required: Doctorate’s degree in Materials Science and/or Engineering, Nanoscience, Applied Physics, (Experimental) Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • Desired: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (materials, general, process, chemical, mechanical, industry, or equivalent).

Required qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of previous hands-on (practical) experience with atomic layer deposition (ALD) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD)
  • Previous hands-on practical experience with materials processing and/or characterization
  • At least 1 published paper during the PhD time as main author
  • Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Reliable and results-oriented work style
  • Excellent team-work skills

Desired or advantageous skills (not mandatory):

  • Previous experience with powder technology and/or sintering
