Research Associate (f/m/d)

Job description

Your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting life cycle assessments (LCAs) for battery recycling processes with low material value (RENOVATE)
  • Comparing primary raw materials and recycled materials from a sustainability perspective
  • Developing a toxicity screening approach for battery materials and cell systems at an early TRL stage
  • Validating the toxicity screening and linking it to EU Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) requirements
  • Developing and testing methods for sustainability assessment/screening at early TRL stages, incorporating the MCDA approach and considering raw material criticality, costs, carbon footprint, and toxicological aspects
  • Performing life cycle assessments (LCA), also prospective LCA of new battery materials
  • Preparing and coordinating interim and final reports for research projects

The position is based at ITAS.

Personal qualification

You have:

  • A completed university degree (Master’s) in engineering, natural sciences or environmental sciences, with a completed PhD
  • Several years of experience in sustainability, life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle costing (LCC), and social LCA (S-LCA)
  • Initial experience in assessing toxicological aspects
  • Knowledge of energy technologies, chemical processes, raw material extraction, battery recycling, and toxicology
