Introduction
The Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research Atmospheric Aerosol Research (IMKAAF) studies atmospheric aerosol processes that are significant for the environment, weather, and climate. Its research utilizes the globally unique AIDA atmospheric simulation chamber, state-of-the-art laboratory experiments, and innovative mobile measurement devices. Currently, the new 75 m³ large atmospheric simulation chamber AIDAc2 is constructed and implemented. For the instrumentation starting from summer 2026 we seek for an aerosol physicist supporting us in planning and implementing TDL, FTIR, and light scattering measurement systems.
Your Tasks
- Installation and commissioning of proven TDL, FTIR, and light scattering measurement systems at the new AIDAc2 atmospheric simulation chamber
- Development of new or enhanced TDL, FTIR and light scattering measurement systems for the AIDAc2, taking into account the operational requirements at the new simulation chamber and utilizing state-of-the-art technology in spectroscopy and opto-mechanics
- Contributing to the software development for controlling the new measurement systems and integrating them into the central facility control and data acquisition systems
- Conducting test measurements and contributing to first scientific experiments with AIDAc2
- Technical documentation, functional specifications, and operating instructions for the new measurement systems
Your Profile
- A completed graduate degree (Master’s or university diploma) with a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry or in atmospheric and environmental sciences, specializing in optical spectroscopy (FTIR, TDL)
- Professional experience in the development and application of TDL and/or FTIR spectroscopy (preferably in atmospheric sciences)
- Extensive knowledge of TDL, FTIR, and scattered light spectroscopy
- Practical experience in the setup and use of TDL, FTIR, and scattered light measurement systems
- Experience in the design of optomechanical systems
- Programming skills in LabView and Python
- Strong communication skills in German and English
- Ability to work in a team and to work in a structured and goal-oriented manner
