Chemist (f/m/d), specialization in radiochemistry or geochemistry
75% part-time
Job description
The PhD is conducted in the frame of a collaborative project with several German universities and research institutions. Your area of responsibility essentially includes:
- Literature study to identify relevant C-14-containing organic molecules and optimization of analytical methods
- Conducting sorption experiments in clay systems with variation of key parameters
- Conducting experiments in clay model systems to evaluate the effect of various cations in the interlayer, the charge distribution or the absence of a permanent layer charge in the interlayers of the clay minerals on retention processes
- Conducting sorption experiments in cement systems with cement paste and pure cement phases
- Conducting the experiments as a function of time, solid-liquid ratio, concentration of C-14 concentration, and ionic strength
- Comparing the data obtained with previous studies on the sorption of organic molecules to cement
- Publication of the results.
Personal qualification
- University degree in chemistry, specialization in radiochemistry or geochemistry
- Good knowledge of radiochemistry and inorganic chemistry
- Basic knowledge of analytical and spectroscopic standard procedures
- Basics of chemical model calculations
- Experience in working with glove boxes and in handling open radioactive substances
- General knowledge of sorption processes and final disposal safety research
- Good written and spoken English skills
- High level of self-motivation, strong communication skills, ability to work in a team
- Initial professional experience is desirable.
